Curriculum

CASD transitioned most of the curriculum courses of English Language Arts (ELA), Library, English as a Second Language (ESL), Math, Science, and Social Studies to the new PA standards.   The standards focus all schools on College and Career Readiness benchmarks. Standards tell us what level and degree we should be reaching for in the curriculum but standards do not tell us how to get there. Teams of teachers and supervisors have collaborated over the course of the 2012-2013 school year to make this transition a locally controlled and evolved curriculum. Major features of the CASD curriculum are the essential questions, concepts, skills, and vocabulary, as well as instructional methodologies. A cornerstone of the curriculum and standards is the alignment to the Standards Based Report Cards and Assessments we use on a daily basis.

The CASD staff and administration are some of the best professionals. The drive, passion, and focus on continuous improvement is outstanding to see and be a part of in Chambersburg.  All of the improvements could not have happened without support and agreement to forge ahead.  We strive to be "ahead of the curve" when it comes to changes we know make sense, and that will make a difference in the lives of children.
